That was an awesome shootout. I'm one of those people who says "A game shouldn't be decided by a skills competition," but I get pretty into it when they go longer than 3 rounds. I still think 3-on-3 would be better though. |
|
|
|
The fact that I don't like that the shootout decides a tie game does not mean that I haven't seen exciting shootouts.
A shootout is a fun, highly skillful competition, but it is NOT hockey. The comparison would be a shooting range competition to decide a war. |

Steve Palumbo: Don't Like the Shootout? Think Again; Plus Canes vs Ducks Notes
The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Calgary Flames in an eight round shootout masterpiece. For those out there that can't stand the idea of deciding the outcome of a hockey game on a gimmick, you have obviously never witnessed a shootout like this. - Steve Palumbo
If you're running the ducks organization, do you sell for a couple picks (whether its big trades or small), or do you buy and hope to sneak in the playoffs? |

A shootout is a garbage way to decide an extra point. Every season you have teams that make the playoffs because they're good at the shootout...but once you're in the playoffs there's no shootouts.
So basically the NHL is saying "You made the playoffs because you're the best at what there is nothing of in the playoffs" |
|
|
|
Shoot-out's are a joke.
Call me crazy but I like it when they play hockey to decide the outcome of a hockey game. Save the shoot-outs for the All Star Game. |

This upcoming 2 week road trip will decide this teams fate. If they have a record similar to their early season 2 week trip the trades will commence. While I don't believe either of Perry, Getzlaf, or Ryan will go I do believe players like Blake, Lydman, and possibly Vishnovski will be offered for picks or prospects. I also think if the Sharks will make a decent offer, Bob Murray will ask Teemu to waive his NTC. I think he would accept a trade to San Jose because it would be least disruptive to his family life. I'm pretty sure that he would waive for the Kings too but Lombardi is such a dumbass I don't think a deal would get done. |

I'm not going to research whether or not the guy is right or not, but that's definitely possibly. He could have been taken out of a game and not gotten a decision and vise versa. |

I normally try not to troll, but come on, learn how to spell your own teams players' names. Jeebus, how long has he been with the team now? And if you are just a terrible speller, just call him by his nickname, not hard to spell Lubo. |

It wouldn't be worth it. You're not gonna give us Pavelski or Couture, so no return is worth seeing Teemu in that teal jersey again. It might be different if he had a chance to win another Cup, but that's not gonna happen in SJ... |

That's just it, it's going to hurt a bit to get him or he's not going to waive. I'm guessing it would take one of Ryan Clowe or Doug Murray. |

Too bad I'm among the minority. Since it's implementation in 2005-06, the shootout has been the subject of countless debates on both message boards and social media outlets alike. But debates aside, nothing matches the tension, anticipation and thrill of a shootout.
You need to get out more. |

His name also ends in a "y" not "i". I know it's a bit of an overreaction, and for that I'm sorry. It's just a pet peeve of mine. |

I took your advice and went out today. It was actually a pretty nice day. Sunny and 80 degrees. Thanks! |

Love the shootout when we win it, hate it when we don't. We usually lose them. Anyone remember Kurtis Foster taking a shootout attempt earlier this year? That's when I started to hate them |

Whether the NHL keeps the shootout or gets rid of it, they are still trying to keep the game fresh. I'm good with that. |

I don't have an issue with the shootout, but I do have an issue with the shootout winner getting the same amount of points as a regulation winner. The parity that's created is an unrealistic snapshot of how the teams really stand and it makes it nearly impossible for a team on a late season playoff run to bridge the gap.
I'd love to see: 3 pts for regulation win, 2 pts for SO win, 1 pt for OT loss.
But with Bettman's incessant quest for league parity this will never happen. |

Jeebus, do you really have to play grammar/spelling police here? I mean if you want to play that game fine then. You forgot to place an apostrophe between the m and s in "teams." Btw you're terrible at grammar |
